Lifelong fitness fanatic Steven Yu wanted to do his roommate Ryan a solid and help him adopt a healthier lifestyle. After a month of training and meal plans, Steven’s roommate hadn’t lost a single pound. Ryan roommate decided to throw in the towel, go back to his old eating habits, and spend all day every day standing in front of the desk he built out of computer monitor boxes, a home fan box, a whiteboard and a piece of wood that happened to be lying around playing video games. After four weeks, Ryan was 10 pounds lighter.
Steven wanted to know why. Could you increase your health, happiness and productivity without changing your existing lifestyle? NASA says yes - standing periodically throughout the day is healthier than walking or daily exercise. Along the way, Steven also discovered standing could help the lingering back pain he had from a college motorcycle accident.
Steven discovered that there wasn’t a standing desk available that was both affordable and automatic, so he decided to build it himself.
Steven’s friend Ryan builds a standing gaming desk out of cardboard boxes and a whiteboard. Loses 10 pounds.
